As a mom of 3, I remember laboring over their baby books listing out their First Haircut, First Steps, their Likes and Dislikes, and just about everything else you can document on paper!
I came across a book for those who would like to do the same for their beloved dog entitled "If I Should Die Before My Dog - " by Joe and Cathy Connolly. However, this book goes a step further than any baby book I have seen, and also gives you the opportunity to give your beloved canine's every instruction and need to his next caregiver.
Well why would he need a "next caregiver?" Unfortunately things happen in life, whether you precede your dog in death or if you are just unable to care for them anymore (illness, disability, etc). It makes you wonder what would happen to your pet - questions I thought of like:
- Who would care for your dog?
- His likes/dislikes?
- His vet information?
- His favorite toy?
- Medications needed?
- How often to be fed?
- What kind of food to eat?
- When does he go to the bathroom and how often?
Let's face it, your dog can't talk...so this book does that for him! It's almost like a WILL for your beloved friend. There are laid out categories for you to fill in the blanks directly in the book, and the authors Joe and Cathy Connolly have thought of EVERYTHING - and every possible scenario of information that could be needed in regard to your pet. Outside of my list of questions above (which are all included in the book) a few categories that I would never have thought about were:
- Things that Scare Me
- My Bad Habits and How to Prevent Them
- Crating
- Grooming (My Nails/Teeth/Ears/Eyes)
If you are interested in purchasing this book, you can purchase a copy here:

Oh and yes - The Connolly's are in the process of publishing a similar book for your beloved feline!

All opinions listed above are my own. I was given a complimentary copy of the above-mentioned book for review purposes.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful review!
ReplyDeleteWe're so glad you mentioned the illness and disability point! It isn't just in the event of death, as you said anything can happen in our lives that would prevent us from caring for our beloved pets. So many end up in shelters and rescues and no one knows anything about them. How sad is that. This book finally gives them a "voice" that would make their lives so much easier without us.
So, thank you once again for such a great review!
