I was always nervous about these things, since I had to give my current checking account info to get the account - BUT I am a Capital One banking customer already, and when completed, this account was added to mine automatically (so I felt better - wanted to share in case you were leery too!)
This account has NO FEES - NO MINIMUM BALANCE!
What you have to do:
1) Open up an account GET YOURS HERE!
2) Transfer some $ from your regular checking (provide routing/account number) - Make an initial deposit of at least $250. (seems like a lot, but you can transfer it back out as long as you make FIVE purchases with the card or pay for something with it that you would have used your regular account for anyway!)
Note: You do not have to be a Capital One customer to get this account - you can bank anywhere!
3) Complete 5 Debit Card purchases, deposit checks from anywhere with CheckMateSM or any combo of both within 45 days. ANY AMOUNT - ANYWHERE WITHIN 45 days of opening account!
4) They deposit $100 bonus into your account on DAY 50!
Note: When I opened my account, it was only a $50 bonus so you would receive $100 instead!
BONUS: This is a GREAT way to have a Debit card to use for online purchases (I am sometimes leery about giving my debit card info out) so this way it has a small balance.
Also, use it to "stockpile" money towards Christmas or as a "savings" for a big purchase later! Best case, I now have FREE money for later!
This account is a debit/credit account only - you can use card at retailers - ATMs, etc - there are NO checks provided. You can make deposits onto the card via transfer or ATM as well.
